What may seem like an easy, one-stop solution for PE often is not.
After all, the ultimate goal in treating PE is to satisfy both the patient and his partner and to have ongoing, lasting results.
Viagra® and similar products are known for shortening the refractory period – meaning you can resume sexual activity without a long down time. But this benefit has no impact on the ejaculation time.
And conventional therapy, including the use of “Start and Stop” technique and anti-depressants, has limited, short-term effect. Anesthetic creams rarely, if ever, work. They numb the head of the penis as well as the partner’s vagina, reducing pleasure for both partners. Plus, as they numb, you never actually “get used” to the sensation of making love for longer periods of time, and the problem returns as soon as you stop using them..
Any of those techniques may trigger some improvement in the short term, but the effects are limited. Recent studies have shown that the majority of patients showed no sign of lasting improvement.*
Successful treatment of PE requires a comprehensive strategy that no single product can provide. At Boston Medical Group, the treatment of PE involves a stepwise approach. The underlying cause of Premature Ejaculation must be properly diagnosed before a specific treatment program can be recommended.
Effective treatment will allow you to progressively overcome both the sensitivity issue and the performance anxiety often associated with PE. Following the treatment program, you are then able to control your ejaculation on your own, without the need for further treatment.
A combination of counseling, behavioral changes and medications is usually the most effective treatment program.

It was once thought that erectile dysfunction was purely a psychological problem in the realm of men’s sexual health. However, as technology advances, experts are finding scientific evidence that suggests erectile dysfunction is also biologically-based.
It is not uncommon for men to ejaculate sooner than they or their partner would like, although if the problem persists and begins to increase in frequency, it is possible that erectile dysfunction is occurring.
What to look for:
- Premature ejaculation occurs in a majority of your sexual encounters
- It causes stress or unusual concern
- Your sex-life was fine and now it is not
- You ejaculate before or shortly after intercourse begins
- You have difficulty maintaining an erection
Psychological causes include but are not limited to:
- Being in a situation where you are hurrying
- Feelings of guilt that drive the need to rush during intercourse
While erectile dysfunction is sometimes caused by psychological distress, studies show that there are a number of biological components.
- Low hormone levels
- Abnormal levels of neurotransmitters
- Inflammation of the prostate or urethra
- Thyroid issues
- Nervous system problem caused by trauma or surgery.
- Narcotic withdrawal and certain Anti-Anxiety medications.

Independent market research company OnePoll recently questioned 2,000 men between the ages of 16 and 65 about their place in society. Half of the respondents claimed to be unsatisfied with their position in society and their personal sexual performance.
Former GP and trustee of the Sexual Dysfunction Association, Dr John Tomlinson, said that an ‘enormous’ number of 18- to 40-year-olds were concerned about sexual problems. He continued to suggest that advertisements including well-toned, physically flawless celebrities elicit a negative self-image in men.
Only 11% of 40-year-old men said their confidence is higher now than when they were younger. One in three of those men said when they go out to meet women they consume alcohol to boost their confidence.
One in four respondents claimed inadequacy in the bedroom because of TV shows like “Sex and The City” where ideal men are those with immense stamina and a perfect build.
“Men are more likely than women to have fragile self-esteem, as they judge their status in society through success in a single sphere, such as their career, the size of their pay packet or the model of their car,” said British Psychologist, David Sharpley. Also, because men in general do not spend a lot of time in introspection or communicating their concerns, they often let health issues go untreated.

There are three types of Premature Ejaculation, two of which are Primary and Secondary Premature Ejaculation. Primary is when ejaculation occurs too soon, while Secondary premature ejaculation is caused by the weakening of an erection. The following case studies were done on one patient with each of the previously mentioned dysfunctions.
David, a 24 year old with primary premature ejaculation experienced a lot of tension within his relationship and while using alternatives such as numbing creams and rubber rings helped temporarily, David wanted to think about the long-term with his girlfriend.
After having a biothesiometry test done, it was found that David has an over-sensitive penile head. This was causing his premature ejaculation. Boston Medical Group was able to offer a treatment that would prolong David’s erection even after ejaculation. He eventually got used to the sensation of having sex and was able to regain control of his erections.
Eric, 35, has a different story. Eric has been married for thirty years and within the last two years has lost control of his ejaculations. Eric was in great health aside from slightly higher blood pressure. His doctor prescribed medication to control his blood pressure. Boston Medical Group conducted a test called an eco-Doppler test, which measures the amount of blood flow through the penis (completely noninvasive and measures bloodflow using sounds waves!) It was found that because Eric was constantly concerned with maintaining an erection, he was actually causing it to weaken. To solve this problem, Boston Medical Group prescribed vasodialators to use ten minutes before sexual intercourse. As soon as both his confidence and erection improved he was able to control his erections without the vasodialators.
Every patient has a different story with unique qualities and should therefore have a personalized treatment. Boston Medical Group offers personalized treatments and it’s as simple as finding a clinic in your area. For more information check out Boston Medical Group’s website.

United States researchers have found nerves in the spinal cords of rats that trigger the ability to ejaculate. Scientists believe it may be one step forward on the path to find new treatments for sexual dysfunctions.
In the study, done at the University of Cincinnati, these nerves were isolated and taken out of the rats. The male rats were then placed in cages with female rats and although they seemed to be mating; never ejaculated. The study showed that these nerves relay message for reproduction in the rat’s brain.
When the receptors for these messages were removed, the rats could not ejaculate. No other changes in behavior were seen in any of these rats.
It is said that with this scientific finding, men who have become paralyzed and thus have premature ejaculation issues could potentially see own problems solved.

Premature Ejaculation is basically caused by a combination of an overly sensitive glans penis (or head of the penis), and nervousness or performance anxiety while making love. This particular anxiety is commonly associated with the fear of ejaculating rapidly and being unable to satisfy the sexual partner. The fear commonly originates from a prior experience of premature ejaculation. A single occurrence of PE therefore leads to further occurrences of PE which continues to perpetuate the problem.
PE can also occur in conjunction with Erectile Dysfunction. In cases such as these, the proper treatment plan needs to focus on ED as the primary problem to treat, as resolving it may in turn also resolve the PE problem.
